USG Thyroid (Neck)

USG Thyroid (Neck)

Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

A noninvasive medical procedure called ultrasound imaging aids in the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders. It is painless and secure. It uses sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. Another name for ultrasound imaging is sonography. It makes use of a transducer, a tiny probe, and skin-contact gel. Through the gel and into the body, high-frequency sound waves flow from the probe. The probe gathers the reflected sounds. These sound waves are used by a computer to produce an image. Radiation-free ultrasound examinations (x-rays). The internal organs of the body can be seen in their structure and motion thanks to the real-time imaging provided by ultrasound. Blood may be seen flowing through blood vessels in the photographs as well.

Pictures of the thyroid gland and nearby neck tissues are produced by an ultrasound of the thyroid. The butterfly-shaped thyroid gland, which has one lobe on each side of the neck and is joined by a thin strip of tissue known as the thyroid isthmus, is situated in front of the neck right above the collarbones. One of nine endocrine glands that produce and release hormones into the bloodstream, they are distributed throughout the body.

The thyroid gland produces the thyroid hormone, which influences a number of bodily processes, including the rate at which the heart beats. Patchy spots or nodules, which may or may not be felt on the skin's surface, frequently occur in the thyroid. A thyroid exam by a doctor can detect lumps in five to ten percent of adult patients. Palpable nodules is the term for these. Due to its high sensitivity, ultrasound can detect many nodules that are not palpable. Up to 70% of adults in particular age groups have nodules visible on ultrasonography. The great majority of these are thyroid tissue benign zones that are completely safe. Only a small percentage of them are actual thyroid tumors, which may necessitate additional testing or medical attention.
