ALP Test

ALP Test

Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

The amount of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in your blood is measured by an alkaline phosphatase (ALP) test. ALP is an enzyme found throughout your body. ALP is produced differently in different parts of your body. The majority of ALP is found in your liver, bones, kidneys, and digestive tract.

ALP levels in the blood that are abnormal can indicate a variety of health problems, including liver disease, bone disorders, and chronic kidney disease. However, because an alkaline phosphatase test cannot identify the source of ALP in your blood, other tests are usually required to make a diagnosis.

ALP, ALK, PHOS, Alkp, ALK PHOS, etc.

What is its purpose?
An alkaline phosphatase test is frequently used to screen for or help diagnose liver or bone diseases. The test may also aid in the diagnosis or monitoring of other medical conditions.

What is the purpose of an alkaline phosphatase test?
As part of a routine checkup, your doctor may order an alkaline phosphatase test. Because ALP levels can be affected by a variety of conditions, the test is frequently performed in conjunction with other blood tests. Other tests may include a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) or liver function tests to determine how well your liver is functioning.

If you have symptoms of liver damage or a bone disorder, an alkaline phosphatase test may be ordered. Among the symptoms of liver disease are:

  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Appetite loss
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Jaundice is a condition in which your skin and eyes turn yellow.
  • Abdominal swelling and/or pain (belly)
  • Swelling of the ankles and legs
  • Urine (pee) that is dark in colour and/or stool that is light in colour (poop)
  • Itching all the time

Among the symptoms of bone disorders are:

  • Bone discomfort
  • Your joints are inflamed and arthritic.
  • unusually shaped and/or excessively large bones
  • Bone fractures
