Creatinine Clearance Test

Creatinine Clearance Test

Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

The creatinine clearance test contributes to the assessment of renal function. The creatinine levels in blood and urine are compared during the test.

Different Names Kidney function and serum creatinine clearance as well as renal function and serum creatinine clearance

Why is the Test Done?

A chemical byproduct of creatine is creatinine. The body produces the molecule creatine to provide energy, primarily to the muscles.

The creatinine clearance test determines the glomerular filtration rate by comparing the blood and urine levels of creatinine (GFR). GFR is a measurement of the kidneys' function, particularly their filtering capacities. We refer to these filtering components as glomeruli.

The kidneys are completely responsible for removing or clearing creatinine from the body. Creatinine levels rise in the blood when renal function is impaired because less creatinine is being eliminated in the urine.
