Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

You can have the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and not show any symptoms. When your doctor examines your blood, he or she may notice that your level of certain liver enzymes is elevated. If this occurs, additional tests will be performed to confirm that you have the disease.

Who Should Get a Hepatitis C Test?

No matter what, the CDC recommends that you get tested at least once. If any of the following apply to you, you should definitely get screened:

  • Between 1945 and 1965, you were born.
  • You either use or inject drugs.
  • You've ever injected drugs, whether it was once or a long time ago.
  • You are infected with HIV.
  • You're undergoing kidney dialysis.
  • Your alanine aminotransferase levels are abnormal (ALT).
  • Before July 1992, you received a blood transfusion, blood components, or an organ transplant.
  • Have you ever purchased clotting factor concentrates prior to 1987?
  • You received blood from a donor who tested positive for the hepatitis C virus later on.
  • You work in health care, as a first responder, or in another occupation that exposes you to HCV-infected needles.
  • You were born to an HCV-positive mother.

Why Should You Have Your Blood Tested?

  • Hepatitis C can exist without symptoms.
  • The exam is brief and simple.
  • You will defend your family and friends.
  • Treatment may be able to suppress the virus and even cure you.
  • Cirrhosis and liver failure can be avoided if treated early.
