IVP

IVP

Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

An imaging procedure called an IVP is performed to examine the kidneys and ureters. The tiny tubes called ureters are responsible for transporting urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

The radiologist injects a contrast dye into one of your veins during the examination. He or she follows the contrast dye as it passes from the kidney into the ureter and finally to the bladder using X-ray images.

An obstruction in the blood flow via a kidney may be the cause of dye that travels too slowly or not at all. It might also indicate that the kidney, ureter, or bladder are not functioning as they ought to.

If your doctor suspects you have kidney illness or a urinary tract issue, they might request this test.

X-rays provide images of your interior organs and bones using a small quantity of radiation. One sort of X-ray is an IVP.

This examination could be conducted concurrently with a renal CT scan (urography). Contrast dye is also used during a CT scan. It creates pictures of the kidney in the form of layers or "slices."
