Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
A noninvasive prenatal diagnostic test called the biophysical profile is frequently carried out after the 28th week of pregnancy to assess the fetus' health. It combines a non-stress test with an ultrasound examination. The non-stress test is carried out to determine whether the fetal heart rate increases in response to movement. The ultrasonic test is intended to evaluate the following four elements:
- Gross body motions in fetuses include individual movements of the body or limbs, as well as fine motor movements.
- Opening and closing of the hands and mouth, extending and flexing of the limbs, or shifting or rotating of the body's trunk are all examples of fetal muscle tone.
- Continuous, rhythmic breathing episodes are fetal breathing movements.
- The amount of amniotic fluid in a single pocket that is at least one centimeter wide and two cm tall.
A reduced biophysical profile may be run in specific circumstances rather than the full biophysical profile. In the modified biophysical profile, the ultrasound measurement of amniotic fluid volume is combined with a nonstress test.
