Pigtail Insertion

Both spontaneous and, in some situations, traumatic pneumothorax are treated with small-bore chest tubes, often known as pigtail catheters. Similar to how central venous catheters are inserted, these pigtails are implanted using the Seldinger catheter-over-wire procedure. Less pain, no need for tissue dissection, fewer scars, and no need for suturing upon chest tube removal are benefits of placing tiny diameter chest tubes percutaneously. The procedure shortens (or avoids) hospital stays and lowers the risk of problems.
