Absolute Eosinophil Count
Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
An absolute eosinophil count is a blood test that determines the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. When you have certain allergic diseases, infections, or other medical conditions, your eosinophils become active.
Why is the Test Performed?
This test will determine if you have abnormal results from a blood differential test. This test may also be performed if the provider suspects you have a specific disease.
This test may aid in the diagnosis of:
- Acute eosinophilic syndrome (a rare, but sometimes fatal leukemia-like condition)
- A hypersensitivity reaction (can also reveal how severe the reaction is)
- Addison disease in its early stages
- parasitic infection
- Vasculitis
