Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
With this test, you can find out how much uric acid is in your blood or urine. Uric acid is a typical waste product that the body produces when purine-related compounds are broken down. Purines are chemicals that are present in various foods as well as in your own cells. Liver, anchovies, sardines, dry beans, and beer are a few examples of foods high in purines.
The majority of uric acid dissolves in your blood before passing to your kidneys. Your urine is how it leaves the body after that. Your body can produce uric acid crystals in your joints if it produces too much of it or doesn't release enough of it into your urine. Gout is the name of this condition. The severe inflammation that gout, a kind of arthritis, creates in and around the joints, is excruciating. Having high uric acid levels can potentially result in renal failure and other illnesses including kidney stones.
Additional terms include serum urate, uric acid, and urine.
What does it serve?
Most frequently, a uric acid test is used to:
- help in gout diagnosis
- Identify the root cause of persistent kidney stones
People receiving specific cancer treatments should have their uric acid levels monitored. High quantities of uric acid can enter the blood as a result of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
