Differential Leukocyte Count (DLC test)

Differential Leukocyte Count (DLC test)

Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed

Differential Leukocyte Count is the full name of the DLC test. The DLC test determines the percentage of each type of WBC in the blood. A differential count can also detect immature WBCs as well as abnormalities such as anemia, leukemia, and infections.

White blood cells, also known as leukocytes, are an important component of the immune system that aids in the fight against infections. White blood cells are classified into five types:

  • Neutrophils - The most common type of WBC is neutrophils. By destroying microorganisms that cause infections, these cells help to stop them.
  • Lymphocytes - are classified into two types: B cells and T cells. Antibodies are used by B cells to prevent bacteria and viruses from entering the body. T cells, on the other hand, target and destroy the body's own cells that are infected with pathogenic organisms and tumour cells.
  • Monocytes - eat parasites and bacteria to protect the body from them.
  • Eosinophils - are immune cells that fight parasitic infections, inflammation, and allergic reactions.
  • Basophils - During allergic reactions and asthma attacks, basophils release enzymes.
