Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
The thyroid gland is found in the neck, just below the Adam's apple. The thyroid gland produces hormones and regulates how your body uses energy as well as its sensitivity to other hormones.
T3 is a hormone produced by the thyroid called triiodothyronine. It also produces the hormone thyroxine, also known as T4. These hormones work together to regulate your body's temperature, metabolism, and heart rate.
The majority of T3 in your body binds to protein. T3 that does not bind to protein is known as free T3 and circulates in your blood unbound. The T3 total test, which is the most common type of T3 test, measures both types of T3 in your blood.
Your doctor may be able to determine if you have a thyroid problem by measuring the T3 in your blood.
Why do doctors order T3 tests?
If your doctor suspects a thyroid problem, he or she will usually order a T3 test.
