Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
An easy, non-invasive method for identifying fungal infections of the skin or nails is a KOH prep test. Cells from the affected area are taken, put on a slide with a potassium hydroxide solution, and viewed under a microscope to check for symptoms of a fungus. The KOH skin lesion exam, also known as a potassium hydroxide skin lesion exam, fungal smear, or skin scraping, is quick, precise, and almost painless.
Fungi, including dermatophytes, can be detected using a KOH test. Fungi called dermatophytes need keratin to develop. Among the illnesses brought on by dermatophytes include ringworm, jock itch, athlete's foot, and nail infections. Especially in children, they frequently infect the scalp, genitalia, and feet with skin diseases.
