Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
One way to determine if someone has Mycobacterium TB is using the Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST). Standardization of practices, training, supervision, and practice are necessary for accurate TST delivery and interpretation.
Who can get tested for a TST?
The majority of people can get a TST. For children under the age of five, TST is the suggested testing procedure. It should be mentioned that children 2 years of age and older can undergo either a TST or TB blood test (interferon-gamma release assay [IGRA]), according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). A TB blood test is preferred in children who have previously received a BCG vaccination in order to prevent a false-positive TST result brought on by a BCG vaccination.
TST is only not advised for people who have previously experienced a severe reaction to a TST, such as necrosis, blistering, anaphylactic shock, or ulcerations. It is not contraindicated for anyone else, including babies, kids, expectant women, or HIV-positive people. For those who have received the BCG TB vaccine, TB blood tests are the preferred technique of testing.
