The Partial Thromboplastin Time with Kaolin (PTTK), also known as activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), is used to assess bleeding disorders in general.
The APTT test serves the following purposes:
- To look into a potential bleeding disorder or blood clot (thrombotic episode)
- To aid in the investigation of recurrent miscarriages or the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS)
- To keep track of anticoagulant therapy with unfractionated (standard) heparin.
- As part of a pre-surgery or other invasive procedure evaluation
