The post-coital test evaluates the cervical mucus' quality and sperm survival after sexual activity just before ovulation. This test is beneficial in identifying significant sperm and mucus abnormalities as well as abnormalities of sperm-mucus interactions, while being incorrect and debatable.
The post-coital test entails evaluating under a microscope a sample of cervical mucus that was collected four to eight hours after sexual activity. In addition to thin, watery, stretchy mucus, one should anticipate at least three to five forward-moving sperm per high-power field.
The test doesn't hurt and lasts just a few seconds. The patient receives the results immediately. One day after the ovulation prediction kit reports a positive change, the test is conducted.
