Total Leukocyte Count is the full name for TLC. A blood test called a TLC or WBC count measures the quantity of leukocytes, or white blood cells, in the body. Our defensive mechanism relies heavily on leukocytes to combat infections.
The TLC Test is completed when?
Typically, a complete blood count (CBC), which can be completed as part of a standard physical checkup, includes a recommendation for a TLC test. A person may undergo the test if they exhibit any of the following general indications of an infection or inflammation:
- Chills and a fever
- Pain in the body
- Headache - Infection of any kind
- An allergic response
- Irritation
A healthcare professional may also recommend TLC Testing if a patient exhibits indications and symptoms that they believe could be indicative of a blood problem, an autoimmune condition, or an immunological deficit.
