Images of your heart, lungs, blood arteries, airways, and the bones in your spine and chest are created by chest X-rays. Chest X-rays can also show air surrounding a lung or fluid in or around the lungs.
You will normally receive a chest X-ray if you visit your doctor or the emergency room with chest pain, a chest injury, or shortness of breath. Your doctor can diagnose you with heart issues, a collapsed lung, pneumonia, broken ribs, emphysema, cancer, or any of a number of other ailments using the image.
Some people undergo a number of chest X-rays over time to monitor the improvement or deterioration of a medical condition.
