A test called hysterosalpingography, or HSG, uses X-rays to reveal the uterus' interior structure and determine whether the fallopian tubes are blocked.
A little tube is threaded between the cervix and vagina during HSG. The uterus receives an injection of contrast material.
The dye, which appears white on X-rays and is monitored using fluoroscopy, is followed as it enters the uterus and then travels into the tubes using a series of X-rays. The contour of the uterus's form will indicate any anomalies.
The dye slowly fills the tube if it's open. The body resorbs the dye once it leaks into the pelvic cavity.
