Typhidot IgM
Pre test Information : No Special Preparation Needed
The Typhi Dot IgG and IgM test detects IgG and IgM antibodies against Salmonella typhi, the bacteria that causes typhoid fever. Typhoid is primarily transmitted through contaminated food and water, and symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, stomach pain, and diarrhoea.
This test does not detect the presence or absence of Salmonella typhi because it is not quantitative. If specific antibody titers (IgM and IgG) are required, the Widal test is recommended.
Why is Typhi Dot IgG and IgM performed?
The Typhi dot test has been completed:
- In the event of typhoid (enteric) fever symptoms such as headache, high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss, or skin rashes
- As a member of the fever panel
